More Americans Filed for Divorce Online in 2010
According to Mark Rappaport, CEO of DivorceToday.com, more Americans have already filed for divorce online in 2010 than in 2009. This could be due, in part, to the fact that people are starting to feel more financially secure, thus are more willing to file for a divorce. There has been an increase in online orders for marital separation agreements and do-it-yourself divorce kits.
Some, like Rappaport, believe that this is a good sign for the economy, as it shows that people may be becoming more financially stable. During times of economic downturn people are less likely to file for divorce as they attempt to maintain a stable lifestyle, despite having lost feelings for their spouse.
However, the CEO was quick to add that the increase in online order forms was also due an rising acceptance in filing for divorce online. This is particularly in the case of uncontested divorce matters.
