Frank McCourt's Legal Problems Continue
Frank McCourt, already embroiled in a publicly nasty divorce, is now unhappy with the Boston law firm who seems to have drafted a marital property agreement that is now invalid.
The owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers is now being sued by Bingham McCuthen LLP, the Boston firm that represented McCourt. They have gone before a court in Massachusetts to state that the firm met its obligations and did not cause him monetary loss when the draft was invalidated in California.
McCourt's new legal team is arguing back that the firm drafted an agreement that was invalid with California law, a fact they should have recognized and avoided. The basis of this agreement was over the ownership of the Dodgers, in which McCourt hoped to establish sole ownership of the team. Instead, a California court threw out the agreement, making it possible for his ex-wife to seek partial ownership of the Dodgers.
