Vermont Police Officer Charged with Domestic Violence
Another police officer has been charged with domestic assault this month, this time in the state of Vermont. Officer Timothy Newton of the Vermont State Police was taken into custody on February 14; the irony is that Newton was in charge of the Domestic Violence unit.
His arrest came in conjunction with a 911 hangup call that came from a residence in Sandgate on Feb. 6. When police arrived at the house they realized that it was for a domestic violence call involving Officer Newton. This prompted detectives with the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations to open up a case on Newton.
After conducting a series of interviews Newton was arrested on Valentine's Day and brought to the Shaftsbury Barracks. Although he was released shortly after he will have to appear on Feb. 16 at the Windham District Court to enter a plea for the charges against him.
