Wife Seeks Divorce from Husband that Booby Trapped her Vehicle
After discovering that her husband had booby-trapped her car, Connie Hoagland filed for divorce in San Diego this week. The claim of "irreconcilable differences" written in her divorce petition may be understating the reasons why she wants to get a divorce.
After police discovered the pipe bomb placed under Connie's Ford F-150 in September, Larry Hoagland was taken into custody. However, it Connie did not escape the effects of the bomb that detonated outside the day-care center where she worked. She was severely injured as a result. Prosecutors reviewing the case believe that Larry intended to murder his wife so that he could collect on two life insurance policies in her name.
To strengthen their case police found evidence of Larry's intent to make a bomb after discovering plans to build one on a computer that he had access to. They also found several websites that he had visited to gain information on how to make one. The soon-to-be ex-husband had no prior criminal record, but he now faces life in prison if convicted.
