Campus Seeks Benefits for Same Sex Partners
A new petition was posted on Change.org this week asking for same-sex domestic partner benefits for employees of MU campuses.
Since the Council has already passed the resolution, it is up to the UM System Board of Curators to give the final okay. In order to get this done, the Missouri Students Association has been working with the Faculty Council to lobby for the measure's final approval. According to MSA President Eric Woods, Faculty Council Chairwoman Leona Rubin approached him about the collaboration. Although the students ultimately do not have a say in the measure, they are hoping that their support of it is enough to convince the Board of Curators.
If the board does pass the resolution, Woods believes that this will send a powerful message "saying that nearly 25,000 undergraduates, via their MSA senators, support domestic partnership."
