Domestic Partnerships Account for 4% of American Population
New reports show that domestic partnership only accounts for 4 percent of the American population, not the previously estimated 10 percent.
Although this percentage is low, this means that 9 million Americans call themselves gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender. Of that group, bisexuals make up nearly half, at 1.8 percent of the population. Women are more likely to be identified as bisexuals according to a report from the Williams Institute. The original ten percent was a figure quoted from the report compiled by Alfred Kinsey in 1948, and has been cited by advocacy groups ever since.
Another report was released by the Institute of Medicine for the National Institute of Health that emphasizes a growing need for federally funded gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender studies. The primary researcher of this report, Gary Gates went on to state that "sexual orientation is complex, but measurable. Hopefully this will begin to prompt some dialogue on what it means when we say LGB."
If you are considering a domestic partnership, it is important to hire a Los Angeles family attorney who can help you through the process.
