Domestic Partnership Bill Sparking Debate
A bill under debate right now in Michigan is causing quite a stir, especially on the campus of a local University.
The bill, entitled House Bill 4770, would prevent public employers from allowing domestic partnership benefits to be included in their employee compensation programs. After learning about the possibility of this bill being signed into law, several professors at the University decided to band together and take a stand. The seven professors have told the governor that if he allows the bill to be signed into law, all seven of them will quit.
Since the house is dominated by Republicans at the moment, some of the professors are already searching for new jobs. They know that the state legislators will likely not be intimidated by their threat and work to pass the bill into law this year.
