Woman Ordered to Pay Spousal Support Despite Abuse
One woman decided to take a stand against her abusive ex-husband and won, but she will also wind up paying for it in the end.
The California woman claimed that her husband of 12 years had started to sexually abuse her. She caught one of his abusive acts on tape, an incident where he forced her to have oral sex with him, which led to his conviction. However, the courts also ruled that she will have to pay him alimony once he is released from prison.
Since she was responsible for supporting the family and he was unemployed, the courts ordered that she will have to pay her ex-husband $1,000 per month. Despite the abuse that she suffered, the judge ruled that the wide disparity in their monthly incomes forced him to order alimony for the ex-husband. Until she can have her case appealed, the woman will be forced to pay the man that had humiliated and assaulted her during their marriage.
