Child Custody Ruling Upsets Community

A young girl is about to be removed from the custody of her maternal grandmother and the local community is angry about the judge's decision to enforce this move.
The little girl has been raised by her grandmother since her mother died just one month after she was born. Although the father had two children with his wife, he claimed that the third was a result of her relationship with another man. This allegation complicated the divorce proceeding and then a custody battle waged between him and the grandmother. While he did argue that the child was not his at first, after his wife's death he decided he wanted to claim custody of the young girl.
After years spent arguing in court, a judge decided to grant the father custody using the "presumption of legitimacy" clause. This law states that a man will be recognized as the father of a child born to his wife during their pregnancy, even if the child is not biologically his own.
