Mayor Resigns after Domestic Violence Incident
A former mayor is likely not to run for office again after word of a past domestic violence incident became public in a frequently read newspaper last week.
According to the newspaper, the former deputy mayor was forced to resign when the news about his altercation went public. Police reports show that his wife called police after her husband threatened her and started to shake her violently. Even as she was trying to speak with the 911 operator, her husband took the phone and smashed it while shoving her into a kitchen counter. It is uncertain as to why the two were fighting in the first place.
Yet, even though her husband spent two days behind bars on domestic violence charges, she decided not to press charges. As a result, the prosecutor's office was forced to drop the case entirely. However, it did affect his career, as the deputy mayor stepped down from office to deal with his personal issues.
