Southern States Have Higher Divorce Rates

If you are under the impression that southern states have better divorce rates, you would be incorrect. Numbers from a 2009 survey actually revealed that Oklahoma has one of the highest divorce and marriage rates in the country.

Study results show that Oklahoma women are number two in the nation for obtaining divorces, while Oklahoma men came in third place. Only Alaskan women beat out Oklahoma women in divorce, while Maine and Arkansas men came before Oklahoma men in the survey.

As a region, the south did not fare well for divorce rates. When compared to the northeast, which has the lowest divorce rates recently, the south is experiencing an increase in divorces on an annual basis. Overall, the national rate for divorce is 9.7 per 1,000 women and 92 per 1,000 men.

Divorce can be daunting for many, which is why it is advised that people who are considering the termination of their marriages contact a Los Angeles divorce lawyer who can help them sort through legal paperwork and better understand the process.
