Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Decide on Divorce

After six years of marriage, Tom Cruise has declared that a lifetime of love with his wife Katie Holmes is just “mission impossible.” CNN declares that the Cruise filed for divorce from his wife last Thursday. The action comes as a shock to many who regarded them as one of the iconic movie star couples in Hollywood. The Mission Impossible star’s lawyer says that Tom is very sad about the decision and is focusing on the kids. The star’s publicist has asked press and public to give the couple privacy while they undergo this difficult stage of life. Holmes’ attorney says that the matter is private and does not want to exploit the couple by providing too much information.

The couple wed back in 2006 in Italy. At the time, their daughter Suri was 7-months old. Tabloids have always alleged that their marriage was far from perfect, but the couple has appeared together at various events throughout their relationship. In a recent interview, Cruise said that he loved Holmes just as much now as he did when they got hitched. Yet behind the scenes, things must have been rocky because the couple is choosing to spend the rest of their lives apart from each other. While this is Holmes’ first marriage, it is union number 3 for Cruise, who has also been the husband to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers. He has two children from his marriage with Kidman, and the pair divorced back in 2001.

Cruise drew attention to his relationship with Holmes when he famously jumped on a couch on the Oprah Winfrey show because he couldn’t contain his excitement about how much he loved her. Yet though they were once seriously in love, the emotions can fade when life gets tough. Maybe you are in the same boat as Cruise and Holmes. Divorces can be difficult.
