Should You Change Your Name After Divorce?

As a woman, chances are that you took your husband’s last name when you were married. While this is not a requirement in marriage, most women stick with tradition and adopt the last name of their husband when they are integrated into his family. After going by this new name for years, it can be complicated to change things back. While you can certainly revert to your maiden name after a divorce, some divorced women are saying they believe it’s easier to keep their husbands’ last name.

It will avoid the complication of contacting so many offices and applying for so many different cards and identifications as you try to change your name back. Just as there is no law that requires that you take on your husband’s name when you get married, there is no law that says that you need to remove his name from yours when you get divorced. If you prefer to keep your married name, you have every right to do so.

If you want more information about changing your name after a divorce or the implications of changing your name, then an attorney at Claery & Green can help you. With the assistance of a dedicated and hardworking individual, you may be able to obtain the solid and final divorce that you need. As well, you may be able to collect the knowledge in order to learn more about changing your name after a divorce or choosing to not change your name. Between child custody, child support, spousal support, alimony and property division, there is a lot to decide on when you are filing for divorce. The complicated process may be overwhelming and frustrating unless you have a helper on your side to guide you. Contact a Los Angeles family attorney at the firm today for more information!
