California Law Permits Children to Have More than Two Legal Parents

A Legal Team You Can Trust
|

A new California law allows children in the state to have more than two legal parents listed on their birth certificate and legal documents. This is because as families become less and less traditional, the courts have seen the need to provide for unconventional family situations in this way.

Governor Jerry Brown has already signed the legislation which will allow children in the state of California to have more than two legal parents. The measure will help address unique family situations so that the custody of the child and the finances required to raise that child can be shared among all who are a part of the child's upbringing.

The courts will now recognize the roles of all parents that are a part of the child-rearing process and will make sure to recognize the roles played. This will also ensure that a child will not have to endure separation from a parent for any reason.
